How air freight works

  1. Quote. Share the commodity, number of packages, weight, dimensions, origin and destination.
  2. Booking. We confirm space on a suitable flight and share the schedule.
  3. Pickup and documents. We collect the cargo, prepare the air waybill and complete export customs clearance.
  4. Flight. The cargo is handed over to the airline and flown to its destination.
  5. Arrival and delivery. Import clearance and delivery to the consignee are coordinated.

When to choose air freight

Air freight costs more than sea freight, but it is the fastest way to move cargo internationally. It suits urgent spare parts, samples, pharmaceuticals, electronics, perishables and other goods where speed or security matters more than cost. For heavier or less urgent cargo, our sea freight service is usually more economical.

Why choose 3VB ShippTrans for air freight

With more than 18 years in logistics, 3VB ShippTrans brings together air freight, licensed customs clearance and road transport under one roof. We hold FIATA certification, are members of FFFAI and are a registered Multimodal Transport Operator. For shipments that need pickup and delivery at both ends, our door-to-door service manages the entire journey.

Frequently asked questions about air freight

Quick answers from the 3VB ShippTrans team. For anything else, contact us.

Is air freight faster than sea freight?

Yes. Air freight is the fastest option for international cargo, usually moving shipments in days rather than the weeks a sea voyage can take. It costs more per kilogram, so it suits urgent, high-value or perishable goods. For heavy or less time-sensitive cargo, sea freight is normally the more economical choice.

How is air freight charged?

Air freight is usually charged on chargeable weight, which is the greater of the actual gross weight and the volumetric weight worked out from the cargo's dimensions. Light but bulky cargo can therefore cost more than its actual weight suggests. Share accurate weights and dimensions and we will calculate a precise quotation.

What information do you need for an air freight quote?

Please share the commodity, number of packages, gross weight, dimensions of each package, pickup location, destination airport or address, and the date the cargo will be ready. If the goods are perishable, fragile or high value, tell us so we can plan suitable handling from pickup to delivery.

What is an air waybill?

An air waybill (AWB) is the transport document for air cargo. It serves as a receipt from the airline and as the contract of carriage, and its unique number is used to track the shipment. Unlike an ocean bill of lading, it is not a document of title. We prepare it as part of our service.
